This project is dedicated to addressing housing insecurity and homelessness among Canadian Armed Forces Veterans and former members of the RCMP living in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities, with a focused and intentional lens on the unique experiences of First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and 2SLGBTQ+ Veterans By engaging directly with Veterans and collaborating with the Veteran-serving and homelessness sector, we seek to understand the unique challenges contributing to housing insecurity and homelessness in these communities. Through a community-informed approach, we will co-develop practical resources that strengthen support systems and ensure all Veterans have access to the services they need.
Grounded in research and lived experiences, this project will combine a detailed literature review with direct engagement to shape its resources. Sharing circles, engagement sessions, and a national survey will capture personal stories, challenges, and insights from Veterans and those working in the sector. The project will be guided by a Veteran Advisory Committee to ensure the resources reflect the realities of those most affected. Funded by the Government of Canada’s Veterans Affairs: Veteran and Family Well-being Fund, this initiative is committed to fostering meaningful change in how Veteran homelessness and housing insecurity are addressed across Canada.
