Call for Proposals (Alberta)

THE CALL FOR APPLICATIONS IS NOW OPEN

The Rural Development Network, in partnership with the Regional Advisory Board (RAB), is inviting organizations in rural and remote and Indigenous communities in Alberta to apply for funding for projects starting in April 2026.

Project activities must take place outside of the “Seven Cities” in Alberta (Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, and Fort McMurray). This funding is specific to communities and organizations supporting folks in rural and remote areas, including First Nations, Métis Settlements, and Métis communities in Alberta. On-reserve projects are also eligible.

Important Dates
  • Call Opens: November 3, 2025
  • Deadline: December 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM MST
Maximum Funding

The maximum funding request amounts are as follows:

  • Capital projects: $100,000/year ($200,000 total for a 2-year project)
  • Operational Projects: $100,000/year ($200,000 total for a 2-year project)

Eligible Organizations
  • Not-for-profit organizations; 
  • For-profit organizations;  please reach out to RDN to confirm eligibility
  • Municipalities; 
  • Public health and educational institutions; 
  • Provincial and territorial governments and their entities; and 
  • Indigenous organizations 

Examples of previous projects funded (see current funded projects)

  • Transition beds for people with addictions waiting to get into inpatient treatment 
  • Funding for housing support workers and outreach workers to assist folks experiencing or at risk of homelessness access housing and support services 
  • Shelter pods – purchase and retrofitting of trailers to provide emergency shelter  
  • Operational costs associated with temporary emergency mat programs/shelters 
  • Site preparation for Indigenous-led transitional housing projects  
  • Renovations of existing units and purchase of modular units for transitional supportive housing  
  • Land purchased for a new second-stage transitional shelter for women fleeing domestic violence  
  • Data collection (homelessness estimations) and community action plans  
  • Culturally appropriate mental health supports

How to apply

Follow these steps to ensure your application is complete

  • Step 1: Read the General and Indigenous Application Guidelines
  • Step 2: Review how to fill out the Google form
  • Step 3: Fill out the application form
  • Step 4: Fill out the Budget template
  • Step 5: Capital Requirement documents (Capital Only)
  • Step 4: Applications must be submitted through the Reaching Home 2026 – 2028 Call for Proposals online form. Deadline is December 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM MT.
Information Sessions

We strongly encourage potential applicants to attend an information session to learn about Reaching Home funding for 2026–2028, including updates to the application form.

Indigenous communities and organizations are welcome to attend any session, please note: we are also hosting two sessions specifically for Indigenous communities and organizations.

Multiple information sessions are being held to provide guidance and answer your questions.

The Rural Development Network is the Reaching Home Community Entity for Rural and Remote Alberta, and is responsible for distributing this funding from the Government of Canada to rural and remote organizations and communities across the province to address and respond to homelessness. These communities include First Nation and Métis Settlement communities amongst others.
